Cosmetic Surgery Abroad- Considerations For Men

Cosmetic surgery for men is a rapidly growing sector of the medical surgery abroad industry. The number of procedures available along with up to 70% discount on treatments has seen a large increase in the number of men travelling abroad in order to enhance their appearance. Cosmetic surgery not only gives a younger looking appearance, it can also boost confidence, leading to an improvement in other areas such as employment and social prospects.

The Boom in Cosmetic Surgery for Men
Over 50,000 patients travel abroad every year for medical treatments. A large percentage of this number is men who realise that they can receive the treatment they require at a fraction of the cost in the UK, and then, if they wish, recuperate while enjoying a break abroad. Combining cosmetic surgery abroad with a holiday will usually work out cheaper than having just the cosmetic surgery in the UK.

Types of Cosmetic Surgery for Men
The range of treatments available to men who are considering cosmetic surgery have grown considerably over the last few years. Whether the operation is a tummy-tuck, cosmetic dentistry, face-lift, or the very popular pectoral implants/reduction, the aesthetic look that is required can be achieved rapidly and inexpensively in clinics abroad.

Common Cosmetic Surgery Treatments
Dental Procedures
Dental treatments are the most popular reason that patients from the UK are travelling abroad. The savings on flying to countries such as Croatia, Hungary and Turkey for cosmetic dental treatment are significant. A one tooth, dental implant in the UK will cost around £2000, but fly over to Europe and you can expect to pay only a quarter of this price. If you are having more than one tooth implanted this amounts to a huge reduction in expense.

Eyebag Removal
A very common procedure for both men and women that can immediately leave the patient looking less tired and give a younger appearance. The treatment involves removing the excess fat and skin from the upper, lower or both eyelids. Eyebag removal will usually be performed with an anaesthetic or some form of sedation, and an overnight stay is usually required.

Nose Reshaping
Nose reshaping is another extremely popular treatment and the amount of surgery involved depends on the degree of change that is required. The correct medical term is Rhinoplasty and the treatment will usually last between one to two hours and will be performed using an anaesthetic. An overnight stay will be required and there will be some degree of swelling and bruising to the treated area. Bruising and swelling to the nose should disappear within seven to fourteen days.

Face-Lift
One of the reasons that travelling abroad for surgery is popular is the degree of privacy available. If you go abroad for the treatment there is little chance of bumping into someone you know post surgery. Having a face-lift abroad is very popular treatment due to the fact that the surgery can be performed and then the patient can rest and recuperate in private. The patient can then return to the UK, and the workplace, looking as if the holiday has done them the world of good.

There are a number of different face-lifts available, and during the pre-op consultation you should discuss the look you wish to achieve. Face-lifts can involve lifting the brow area, eyebag removal, eyelid lifts, cheek reshaping, and cheek and chin implants. The surgery will be performed under anaesthetic and will usually take between two to three hours depending on the amount of procedures involved.

Ear Surgery
Ea reshaping, or Otoplasty, is a very simple procedure that can alter the shape or position of the ears as desired. It does involve surgery but it is usually performed with only a local anaesthetic, which means you will be sedated but awake when the surgery is performed. You will be able to leave the clinic soon after the surgery and no overnight stay is required. Bruising and swelling will last for a few weeks and a bandage will be required for the first week after surgery.

The above are just a few of the more common cosmetic treatments available for men. Depending on the surgery blood tests may be needed pre-op and there will be consultations with the cosmetic surgeon prior to the surgery. Ask as many questions as you need until you feel comfortable enough to go ahead with the surgery, and always check the surgeon’s references and accreditation. The lifestyle benefits in what has become known as medical tourism means that cosmetic surgery for men has become a common, popular addition to a holiday abroad.
